PLYMOUTH restaurant Heaven has paid £11,500 for a marquee – and is launching it with a charity fundraiser.

The business has teamed up with Heart Radio to support its Have A Heart campaign to raise cash for underprivileged city children.

Heaven's Mehdi Taheri said the marquee has been placed on the decking outside the restaurant to enable the business to stage weddings and corporate events.

He will be launching the idea on November 12 by inviting wedding businesses, such as photographers and florists, existing customers and couples planning to tie the knot, to enjoy food and entertainment.

Mr Taheri is organising a raffle, casino tables, provided by Roborough-based entertainment firm What a Giggle, and is hoping to include a band and an appearance by some of Plymouth Argyle's stars.

He explained the 108sqm marquee can hold 150 people seated or 250 standing.

It has already been booked for its first wedding, in December, and Mr Taheri has appointed Heaven's general manager Danny Thomas as the businesses wedding co-ordinator.

Mr Taheri said: "We will be offering an affordable, bespoke service. We can do the whole wedding package, apart from accommodation, or we can do just food and drink." Meanwhile, Karly Wilson and Joanne Bradley, from Heart Radio's commercial team, will use the launch event to raise cash for their Have A Heart 10-day, 120km trek along the Great Wall of China next March. The two women have a target of £3,000 each.

Miss Wilson said: "I hope Plymouth will get behind the radio station and help us help deprived children in the city."

Heaven will be sending out invites for its free marquee launch event, but people wanting to attend must RSVP to info@iloveheaven.co.uk.
